About This Marionette
Dave the Raven is a marionette I designed entirely on the computer.
Unlike the others, which were all carved in wood, I used a 3D computer program to model all the marionette parts.
Using a process called stereo-lithography, the parts were made from the computer file.
With twenty-five moving parts this marionette operates with just six strings.
He can walk and flap his wings and open and close his mouth.
When flying, his legs can be pulled back behind him like a real bird would fly.
Dave the Raven's Story
Dave the Raven is Dexter, the court jester's sidekick, but his loyalty to him is not strong.
His good nature usually gets the better of him and he always finds a way to tip off everyone to Dexter's evil plans.
With the exception of these courageous moments, Dave is actually a bashful bird.
His shyness is his burden and, in fact, he longs to be friends with all the other characters.
Though no one knows it, he has a big crush on Princess Destiny.
He even makes up love poems for the her, though, he's too terrified to ever show them to her, so Dave's collection of poems gets bigger and bigger.
Dave puts up with Dexter's abuse only because Dexter is the perch that gets him into Dwobbly Castle and closer to the Princess.
He dreams of the day, he will have the courage to fly from Dexter's influence.
