About This Marionette
Dexter the Jester is definitely my favorite marionette.
I had the most fun designing and making him out of all the marionettes.
I wanted him to be both likeable and repulsive at the same time.
He is, after all, the bad guy and villain in the story.
His mischievous grin turns into a vulgar gaping laugh as he opens mouth.
His greenish crooked teeth, his deathly pail skin, blue hair and crazy eyes make him both comical and scary.
Jingling bells on his hat and feet alert the other marionette characters to the arrival of the Jester.
With six strings, the Jester is a little more complicated to operate than the four string marionettes.
Dexter the Jester's Story
Dexter is the castle's Court Jester.
But he has never really been very good at it.
His jokes aren't funny, his tricks and pranks always fail and his juggling is appalling.
Most of the time he ends up just annoying everyone except the King, who thinks his failures are rather amusing.
Dexter feels greatly unappreciated and he vents his contempt for all those who boo his performances to his sidekick, Dave, the Raven.
He secretly plans how he would get back at them for all the humiliation he has had to endure.
But he is powerless until he comes into possession of Darwin's magic book.
Realizing it's potential for wonderful jester tricks and pranks he fulfills his long awaited dream of revenge.
